Apostle Steven L. Best, Sr.

Steven L. Best had his first encounter with God at the age of 14, and became a member of the House of God, Temple #1 in Lexington. Within one year, he received the baptism of the Holy Spirit and was called into the ministry. In August of 1974, he was ordained an Elder, becoming the youngest ordained Elder in the House of God organization. He served under the late Bishop S.P. Rawlings, 2nd Chief Apostle of the House of God. During his service to the Bishop, he served as Jr. Pastor of the Headquarters church, as well as an Associate Minister.

Elder Best served his first appointment as pastor in Bluefield, WV at the age of 24. In October of 1986, Bishop S.P. Rawlings once again called on the young and vibrant Elder Steven L. Best to declare the works of God in the city of Cleveland, OH, therefore appointing him Pastor of Temple #2.

In August of 1987 at the age of 31, Elder Best was elevated to the office of Vicar Bishop in the House of God. His service afforded him the distinction to serve as the National Protocol Officer for all ecclesiastical and formal Presbyterian activities of the church.

Vicar Bishop Best served with the Bishop’s council and liaison to the Pan-African Council, and it became needful for him to travel to Africa in order to facilitate the business of the church.

Vicar Bishop Steven L. Best was ordained a Bishop at the General Assembly of the House of God August 1999. In the selfsame year, Bishop Best was appointed State Overseer of the churches in Northern Ohio. Bishop Best received the office of an Apostle at the 86th Convocation, July 2005. Apostle Best was later appointed, by Chief Apostle James E. Embry to the Apostle Board of the House of God, Inc. at the 87th Annual Convocation, July 2006.

In 2007, Apostle Best served as the General Contractor for the new construction of the present church, Shiloh Temple House of God located at 1178 E. 79th Street, Cleveland, OH. The edifice is approximately 9,000 square feet and has a 36-space parking lot adjacent to the church. The total building cost was around $1.1 million and was paid in full in June of 2019. There was a 20-year mortgage, with American Church Mortgage Co.,  which was paid off 5 years early.

It is his goal to Preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ to a dying world, and to hear the words of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ say, “Well done, Thy good and faithful servant…Enter into the joy of thy Lord”.
