'The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come...' Genesis 49:10

The Passover Forever A Type of Christ

Origin of Passover

Ref. Exodus 12 - Passover is the feast that was instituted by God memorializing the events of Abib 14 when God passed through the land of Egypt, killing all of the first born of the Egyptians whether man or beast. The children of God were spared from this destruction by slaying a lamb and sprinkling the blood on their door post. All of this was done after the commandment of God. The Lord promised the children of Israel that He would pass over every house that was sprinkled with the blood of the lamb, sparing the inhabitants from death.

Jesus and The Passover

Jesus' life serves as every disciples example for how we are to live our lives, and specifically it demonstrates the obedience that we are to have toward God and His commandments. Jesus declared in Matthew 5:17-19 - "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you. Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law. till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so. he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in she kingdom. of heaven," - In line with this declaration, on Abib 14 Jesus and His disciples were found keeping the Passover as God commanded (ref. Mt 26:17-19).

Has The Passover been abolished? GOD Forbid!

I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him. That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past (Ref. Eccl 3:14). Not only has the death of Christ not done away with Passover, but it has added a greater meaning to its' celebration. Jesus has replaced the natural lamb and has become the Lamb of God. Those of us who through faith have been sprinkled by the blood of Jesus have been delivered from the bondage of sin, and passed over from the eternal wrath of God that sin brings about. Without a doubt the disciples of Christ have reason to continue celebrating the memorial of Passover now and forever "For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us..."(ref. 1 Cor 5:7).

*Note: In reading this passage of scripture, you will find that the apostles and disciples kept Passover after Jesus' death

Origin of Easter

*Note: In tracing the path of Easter we cannot outline a similar pattern of biblical references as with Passover, due to the fact that Easter did not originate as a commandment of God but rather stems from an indisputable pagan background. The roots of Easter all point toward ancient pagan celebrations of not only the coming of spring, but more specifically it was the celebration of the Phoenician moon goddess Eostre and the Germanic goddess of spring: Astarte.

Is Easter commanded and therefore accepted by God?

No' As Christianity grew and spread throughout the world, it was common practice to adopt, modify, convert or take over existing non-Christian festivals, sacred locations and even names, and assimilate them into the Christian theology. The Romans used this method of cultural absorption for centuries as a way of expanding and firming up the Empire. Given the fact that Christianity had its roots in Roman ways, it is not surprising that the same technique was used to spread belief in Christ. The best example of this was in ancient Britain where the bearers of the Cross built their churches and monasteries on the very sites where far more ancient rites had been held.

Because Eostre, also know as Ostara, was the goddess of spring and her symbolism dealt with renewal and rebirth, the Christian belief in the resurrection of Christ fit well with these themes.

Does God really care if His name is "celebrated" through pagan practices?

Ref. 2 Cor 6:15-17 "And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty."

Ref. Isaiah 1:10-15 - "When ye come to appear before me, who hath required this at your hand, to tread my courts? 'Bring no more vain oblations; incense is an abomination unto me; the new moons and sabbaths, the calling of assemblies, I cannot away with; It is iniquity, even the solemn meeting. Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hateth: they are a trouble unto me; I am weary to bear them. And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide mine eyes from you: yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood."
