Steven L. BestSteven L. Best had his first encounter with God at the age of 14, and became a member of the House of God, Temple #1 in Lexington. Within one year, he received the baptism of the Holy Spirit and was called into the ministry. In August of 1974, he was ordained an Elder, becoming the youngest ordained Elder in the House of God organization. He served under the late Bishop S.P. Rawlings, 2nd Chief Apostle of the House of God. During his service to the Bishop, he served as Jr. Pastor of the Headquarters church, as well as an Associate Minister.

Elder Best served his first appointment as pastor in Bluefield, WV at the age of 24. He relocated from Bluefield, WV to Norristown, PA and served under the late Elect Lady Ida Bell Sessoms Howard. In October of 1986, Bishop S.P. Rawlings once again called on the young and vibrant Elder Steven L. Best to declare the works of God in the city of Cleveland, OH, therefore appointing him Pastor of Temple #2. While serving as pastor, he led the church in a full remodeling during the first 5 years of his pastorate.

In August of 1987 at the age of 31, Elder Best was elevated to the office of Vicar Bishop in the House of God. His service afforded him the distinction to serve as the National Protocol Officer for all ecclesiastical and formal Presbyterian activities of the church.

Vicar Bishop Best served with the Bishops council and liaison to the Pan-African Council, and it became needful for him to travel to Africa in order to facilitate the business of the church. Bishop has traveled to the Continent of Africa several times, spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the Commandments of the Lord.

Vicar Bishop Steven L. Best was ordained a Bishop at the General Assembly of the House of God August, 1999. In the selfsame year, Bishop Best was appointed State Overseer of the churches in Northern Ohio. Bishop Best received the office of an Apostle at the 86th Convocation, July, 2005. Apostle Best was later appointed, by Chief Apostle James E. Embry to the Apostle Board of the House of God, Inc. at the 87th Annual Convocation, July, 2006.

During Apostle Best’s tenure in Cleveland, the local congregation obtained its charter, and has become most popularly known as Shiloh Temple House of God. Through the ministry of this vessel of God, the church grew by leaps and bounds outgrowing its previous structure. Apostle Best received a mandate from God to build a new edifice that would accommodate the saints for worship. Once the Magnificent House was fully constructed Apostle Best and the congregation dedicated it to God solely for the purpose of worshipping Him on October 20, 2007.

Although he continues to serve in many capacities, he has managed to hear the voice of God with precision and heed the mandate to defend the gospel, and reach out to the surrounding community. It is his goal to “Teach the Commandments of God and Preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ” unto a dying world, and to hear the words of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ say, “Well done, Thy good and faithful servant…Enter into the joy of thy Lord”.
